The Federal Public Defender for the Northern District of California is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Federal Public Defender in its San Jose office. The Federal Public Defender provides defense services in federal criminal cases and related matters in federal court. JOB DESCRIPTION: Duties include trial, appellate and ancillary matters under the direction and guidance of the Federal Defender. The position requires travel for training, investigation and litigation. The successful applicant will have demonstrated an aptitude for excellence in trial and appellate practice, a commitment to the representation of indigent accused persons, and a reputation for personal integrity. Appointment is subject to a satisfactory background investigation. REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must be members in good standing of the State Bar of California. Some trial experience is required. Proficient research skills and effective written and oral communication abilities are essential. Federal Public Defender attorneys may not engage in the private practice of law. This is a full time position. Federal salary and benefits apply.
