National Wild Turkey Federation volunteers have improved 5,000 acres of wildlife habitat along the Canadian River through the Southern Great Plains Riparian Initiative, which also improves water quality and availability. However, biologists estimate tens of thousands of acres need to be restored — a job too large for a single organization.
