Obama administration withdraws offshore drilling plan

Nine months after agreeing to allow exploratory oil and gas drilling in Atlantic and eastern Gulf of Mexico waters, the government changes course, pointing to lessons learned from the BP oil spill. Citing the lessons of the BP oil spill, the Obama administration reversed course Wednesday and pulled plans to open the eastern Gulf of Mexico and portions of the Atlantic Coast to oil and gas exploration.
