Steven Wax, Oregon’s federal public defender, to debate John Yoo, ‘torture memos’ author – Updated: Thursday, May 05, 2011, 1:43 PM – Fairbanks, Alaska, seems an unlikely stage for the battle for America’s conscience. But on Friday, the author of the so-called “torture memos” under President George W. Bush will debate the Portland lawyer who has battled the government’s handling of accused terrorists since 9/11. John Yoo will face Steven T. Wax, the Oregon Federal Public Defender, for three-and-a-half hours of debate, Socratic dialogue and cross examination. They’ll debate before the Alaska Bar Association’s annual convention. http://www.oregonlive.com/pacific-northwest-news/index.ssf/2011/05/portlands_federal_public_defender_steven_wax_to_debate_author_of_torture_memo.html
