California – Governor Brown Announces Appointments for Sept. 8, 2011

SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments. Askia Abdulmajeed, 69, of Los Angeles, has been appointed to the Board of Parole Hearings, Juvenile Division. Abdulmajeed has served on the Board since 2007. Abdulmajeed was a correctional chaplain in the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation from 2004 to 2006 and a program consultant for the Gates Recovery Foundation from 2002 to 2004. He served as special projects manager for Center Point, Inc., a co-ed community corrections program, from 1999 to 2002. Abdulmajeed was assistant deputy director of the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs from 1991 to 1998. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $111,845. Abdulmajeed is a Democrat. Adele Arnold, 59, of Sonora, has been appointed to the Corrections Standards Authority. Arnold has served on the Authority since 2007 and has worked as Tuolumne County’s chief probation officer since 2009. Arnold was the chief probation officer of Siskiyou County from 2003 to 2009, after serving as a probation officer for the county from 1991 to 2003. From 1984 to 1991, Arnold was a court officer for Siskiyou County’s Child Protective Services. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Arnold is a Democrat. Leroy Baca, 69, of Monterey Park, has been appointed to the Corrections Standards Authority. He has served on Authority since 2009. Baca has been Los Angeles County sheriff since 1998, and has served in the department since 1965. He received a Doctorate in Public Administration from the University of Southern California. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Baca is a Republican. Carol Biondi, 67, of Los Angeles, has been appointed to the Corrections Standard Authority. She has served on the Authority since 2006. Biondi has also served on the State Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, the United Friends of the Children and the Children’s Defense Fund. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Biondi is a Democrat. Dean Growdon, 40, of Susanville, has been appointed to the Corrections Standard Authority. Growdon has been the sheriff-coroner for the County of Lassen since 2010, and has served in a number of other positions with the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office since 1994. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Growdon is a Republican. Susan Mauriello, 57, of Santa Cruz, has been appointed to the Corrections Standards Authority. She has been the county administrative officer for Santa Cruz County since 1989. Mauriello received her Juris Doctorate from Santa Clara University Law School. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Mauriello is a Democrat. Sandra McBrayer, 50, of San Diego, has been appointed to the Corrections Standards Authority. She has served on the Authority since 2008. McBrayer is currently the chair of the State Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention. She has been the chief executive officer of the Children’s Initiative since 1996. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. McBrayer is a Democrat. ###
