JUDGING THE JUDGES II – THE SEQUEL

Unfortunately, California gun owners and firearm dealers inquiring about the legality of certain firearms generally cannot turn to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) Bureau of Firearms (BOF) for answers. Despite being the entity responsible for enforcing California firearms laws, and for licensing and regulating firearm dealers in California, the BOF’s official position is “no opinion” when asked about the legality of firearms or firearm related devices under California’s confusing firearm laws. Recently, there have been a number of conflicting reports about DOJ employees expressing an opinion about the legality of the Taurus Judge and Rossi Circuit Judge lines. (Our opinion concerning the legality of the Judge and Circuit Judge is addressed here “Judging the Judges” I ). After following up on these reports, our office spoke with the attorney for the DOJ BOF.
