Michel & Associates, P.C. has been pleased to provide pro bono assistance to Specialized Medical Aid Response Team Emergency Medical Services (hereinafter “SMART EMS” or “SMART). Founded in April 2010 by President and CEO Vince Montefusco with the help of MAPC Lawyers, SMART EMS is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) tax exempt medical services organization which provides emergency medical services, primarily in Santa Barbara County.
SMART EMT RESPONDER is a nonprofit public benefits California corporation comprised of licensed and/or certified medical professionals including, but not limited to, EMT’s, Lifeguards, Nurses, Instructors, First Aid Responders, and other medical practitioners. No officer, director, or volunteer of SMART receives any type of compensation, salary, fee, or other consideration. MAPC lawyers have been providing free legal services to SMART in order to assist and serve the community.
SMART makes emergency medical assistance available to those in need, and provides basic First Aid Care and CPR training to the public. SMART provides Basic Life Support First Aid Rescue Stations for community events that operated from tents and/or vehicle towed trailers. Depending on the location and size of the event, SMART may also provide Foot and Bike Rescue Teams which are positioned at strategic points, dependent on the circumstances of each location, to effectuate a quicker response time to the sick and injured.
SMART is an affiliated member of the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT), as well as the Santa Barbara County Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters group (SBCVOAD). SMART President and CEO Vince Montefusco is also the NREMT Training Officer and is responsible for verifying that each registrant maintains his or her competency in EMT skills. Vince Montefusco is also a Red Cross and Medial Reserve Corps CPR/AED and First Aid Instructor and continues to assist the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) with training, drill scenarios, and evaluations.
Michel & Associates, P.C. is proud to be assisting SMART in providing community services.
