Sacramento County DA faces new staff cuts

The Sacramento Bee – By Brad Branan – PUBLISHED SUNDAY, JUN. 12, 2011 Four years of budget cuts have created a vastly different criminal justice system in Sacramento County. In the fiscal year starting next month, District Attorney Jan Scully will have enough general fund money to pay for about half the attorneys she had in 2008. Public Defender Paulino Durán has lost 10 percent of his staff in that same period. The county’s other indigent defense office will lose half its funding this year.
