Supreme Court Poised to Reshape the Second Amendment: Wolford v. Lopez Argued as Duncan v. Bonta Awaits Conference

The current session of the Supreme Court of the United States is shaping up to be one of the most consequential for Second Amendment jurisprudence in decades—addressing not only who may exercise the right to keep and bear arms, but where those rights may be exercised. Soon, the Court may also take up the critical question of what arms are protected.

The first of these issues is now before the Court in Wolford v. Lopez, a challenge to Hawaii’s sweeping “sensitive places” restrictions that dramatically limit where law-abiding citizens may carry firearms. The case was argued before the Court on February 20.

Lead counsel for the plaintiffs, San Diego-based attorney Alan Beck, joined the latest episode of CRPA TV to discuss the progress of the case, key moments from oral argument, and what a decision could mean for Second Amendment rights nationwide.

Adding to the significance of this moment, Duncan v. Bonta has been distributed for conference this Friday—raising the real possibility that the Court will soon add yet another landmark Second Amendment case to its docket.

This is history in the making.
